Helping with Hope

Proof that what goes around comes around is everywhere. Last week I ran into an old friend who asked for help on a fundraising event — this week I am in the thick of it!

Michelle Nichols — founder of Hug Your Kids Day — had a brainstorm/fundraising idea for the Hope Cafe in Reno.  She and I used to babysit each others kids — more than 10 years ago.

Her idea: Create 100 Heart paintings and sell them at an Hope, Art & Wine night.  Michelle is a dynamo.  I, and several others, helped paint these canvases. Then I took on the publicity angle — wrote the press release, sent it out, took pictures … Michelle went to the Chamber of Commerce Lunch, ran into Beryl Love, editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal … and others … the word is getting out.

This event is next week … (Really short notice for an event). Hope Cafe helps single moms learn job skills and builds confidence so they can get off public assistance and become independent — long term independent. It breaks the cycle of poverty for these women and their children.  What a great mission!

I had never heard of the program — so I met Tracey Connolly, Hope Cafe director, who, it turns out, is best friends with someone I know, plus her husband was in my sister-in-law’s high school class. Yet again proof that this is such a small community.

If you want to go Hope, Art and Wine will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at 555 South Virgina Street (just south of California Ave) …

If I can figure out how, I’ll add a photo ….
